Just a couple of quick comments as I watch the Cards offense struggle on Saturday afternoon.

The Cardinals today announced that the NLDS rotation will set up as follows:

Game 1 - Woody
Game 2 - Marquis
Game 3 - Morris
Game 4 - Suppan
Game 5 - Woody

That makes me feel a little better than the prospect of Morris pitching Game 1 (although, Jeff's comments on yesterday's article did make me feel a little better about Morris.)

Additionally, as we speak the Giants are leading the Dodgers again. Personally, I'm pulling for the Giants, Dodgers, and Astros to finish the season in a 3 way tie. That would force the Giants and Dodgers to play on Monday, with the Astros being handed the wild card outright. The Cards would face the winner of the 1 game playoff, and would be facing - at best - their #2 starter in game 1. Every advantage at this point is worth it, as far as I'm concerned.

It can't happen now, since LA scored 7 in the 9th to win, but they changed the rules a couple of years ago so that your scenario fails. In the case of a tie for a division title, and the wild card also has the same record, the teams tied for the division will play 1 game for the division title, and then the next day, the loser will play the other wild card candidate.

Thanks for pointing that out, Nick. I wasn't aware that they had changed that rule - and frankly, I'm glad they did.

Not that it matters now, of course. ;)
