Over the last 7 days, the Cardinals have had 6 games. Tony gave Albert Saturday off, so the Phat one has played in 5 games in the last week. In those games, he's hitting .550 with a .591 OBP and a 1.400 SLG, good for an 1991 OPS. Any time your OPS looks like a year in recent history, you're doing something right.

During that stretch, Pujols has hit 1 double, 4 home runs, and most amazing of all - 2 triples. How this guy can hit triples considering how painful his foot is supposed to be is beyond me. And to put it into more perspective, Pujols only had 1 triple last year, 2 the year before that. Those extra base hits officially have him on pace for 100 on the season.

It doesn't stop there. Over those 5 games he's scored 10 runs, driven in 8. He's only drawn one walk - which is fine by me for a guy hitting .550 - but he hasn't struck out a single time! On the season, he has now struck out fewer times (41) than he has hit home runs (43).

I think the best thing of all is - 3 of those 5 games came against a team that has a legitimate shot at making the playoffs this year. Unfortunately for the Padres, however, Albert is an equal opportunity masher.

So, with one day off, this is the kind of production Albert can put together. In October, teams never play more than 3 days in a row without getting a day off. What kind of numbers is he going to put up then?
